"Guess what?!" is how Asher begins each sentence. All day, everyday. And then he'll need to pause and invent a story on the spot.
Asher is compassionate and kind. He's exceptionally sensitive. Careless words hurt him deeply and he needs hugs and reassurance from us several times a day. Each of his three preschool teachers has pulled me aside to let me know he's the secret favorite. Miss Linda admitted she'd "never met a sweeter soul." We don't know what it is, but "there's something special about that boy."
A budding geek, he loves computer games and maritime history. Looking for an obscure fact about the sinking Titanic? He's your guy!
He loves adventure, but is not spontaneous--he's up for hiking, camping, and especially bonfires, just as long as you let him know about it beforehand. He's a careful planner, and is very detail oriented. His days are full of Star Wars action figures, lego boats, and racetracks. We don't own any actual racetrack pieces so he makes crazy obstacle courses with our wooden blocks.
The boy loves to wrestle. He and his friends will karate chop and ninjatize each other until they're sticky with sweat.
He loves sushi, steak, and chicken, and is a
reluctant protesting vegetarian. He likes Darth Vader, dessert, and is a self-proclaimed fan of "the dark side." If a five year old can be passionate about anything, his passion is music videos from OK GO, Beastie Boys, and Foo Fighters.
He taught himself to swim and is fearless in the deep end. Asher is obsessed with night-vision. He always wears his undies backward so he can see the pictures. He hates spiders, most bugs, and work.
